Lord Browne urges business to end intolerance

In an interview for BBC Radio's Today programme he also called for a four-point code to guide business leaders. These were to:

- demonstrate that you are doing certain things to show you are being inclusive

- don't do things that are purposely putting people off

- make sure role models are known

- and do it in such a way that it doesn't feel so precious and fragile that is it simply being politically correct.

Stephen Coote, director of the Gay Business Association comments:

"While there has been huge progress in the UK, around the world there is still severe discrimination against lesbian and gay employees. The Gay Business Association welcomes the efforts of international companies to share best practice in employment policies in parts of the world where gay people can be in fear of their lives.

"In the UK we are encouraged by the success of LGBT staff groups which have helped to change attitudes and highlight discrimination. And GBA members have benefited from working with the organisers of London 2012, who have actively encouraged minority-owned firms to apply for contracts to supply the Olympics.

"However, there is still work to be done in winning the hearts and minds of all management. And there's still the need for more top management to come out."

Employee Wellbeing Workshop

Positive East are offering GBA members chance to attend a pilot workshop free of charge at our offices in Stepney Green next month on either Tuesday 26 or Thursday 28 June (£295 per person from August 2012).

Designed to help employers and employees alike, attendees will benefit from simple, practical, and cost-efficient ways to improve their lifestyle, creating their own personalised action plan during the day; whilst employers will benefit from greater productivity from a healthier and happier workforce. More details of the course and content can be found in the attached document.

In return for the opportunity of experiencing the workshop free of charge, we request that participants are willing to provide detailed feedback to help us refine and improve delivery. A total of forty places are available. If ten or more attendees from your organisation would like to benefit from this offer, we can deliver the course at your offices.

If the Employee Wellbeing Workshop is of interest to your organisation, please contact Vanessa.Green@positiveeast.org.uk
